What I Learnt From Ballet That Helped Me as a Pilates Instructor

Years at the barre gave me more than technique. Here's what ballet taught me that shapes every Pilates session I teach.

What I Learnt From Ballet That Helped Me as a Pilates Instructor

Long before I taught Pilates, I was a ballerina. Dance gave me a language for movement I still teach in every day — even if there isn't a barre in sight.

Attention to the smallest detail

In ballet, the difference between a good line and a beautiful one lives in the details — the angle of a wrist, the length through the back of the neck. That trained eye is exactly what lets me spot the small adjustment that changes how an exercise feels for a client.

Discipline, patience, and consistency

Dance taught me that progress is quiet and cumulative. You don't transform in a single class; you build, session by session. I bring that same patience to my clients — especially the ones who arrive convinced they're 'not the sporty type.'

Ballet taught me that control is a kind of freedom. Pilates is where I get to pass that on.

I never really left dance behind. It simply evolved into the way I teach.
